I still use my 5th grade teacher's advice on how to spell: diner/dinner, super/supper, and desert/dessert.

The ones with the EXTRA letters are ones you can eat, so of course everyone would like EXTRA dessert.

I also have the bad habit of writing "your" instead of "you're", and joining "with the" together to make "withe". I know better, but have a hard time convincing my fingers.

This is so helpful. When a project goes to print with a misspelled word they don't care who wrote the copy... but they will be mad that the designer didn't catch the error.

This is a great list to add to my final proof checklist!

What's the point? English written and spoken stuff are not alike. Try some phonetic language (actually I'm not sure about the term...) who cares?

If previous was said to me and I'd had to write it down as if it was my language, I would write:

Vots tö point? Inglis ritten änd spouken staf aar not ölaik. Trai sam phounetik längvits (äksöli aim not söör öbaut tö töörm...) huu keörs?

Yes, I forgot about "to," "too" and "two."

There are lots more homonyms that people mess up. I'll do a follow up one of these days.
