5 Must Have Twitter Applications

May 4, 2009 by Spencer Spellman · 4 Comments

tweeterBy this time you’re probably getting quite familiar with Twitter. Terms like retweet and #followfriday are regular occurring terms in your Twitter feed. However, if you really want to take advantage of Twitter, it’s time to tap into the extensive archive of Twitter applications.

Third-party Twitter applications give users the ability to have a more personal or customized Twitter experience. Maybe you want to search for particular search terms on Twitter or chat about a specified topic or have a more streamlined version of Twitter.

No matter what type of experience or customization you want, there’s probably a Twitter application for it. Here’s my list of the 5 must-have Twitter applications:

1. Twitter Search.

More of a search engine than an application, Twitter Search features real-time results of what’s being talked about on Twitter around the world. You can find out more about your favorite shows or get up-to-the-second news.

2. TweetChat.

TweetChat really uses Twitter for what it’s meant to be used for: conversations. Users enter the name of a specific topic, usually agreed on by a certain hashtag, and then can start sending and receiving tweets solely from users who are talking about that topic.

3. TweetDeck.

tweetdeck

TweetDeck is easily the most popular Twitter application. It offers a lot of different features that you can’t do by just using Twitter, such as creating columns to create a personal dashboard, create groups, update Facebook and easily share photos.

4. Power Twitter.

Power Twitter is another very popular application in how it makes the user’s experience more customizable and simple. The tools adds features to the Twitter interface like a search box, viewing status updates with a mouseover and photo uploading.

5. Twhirl.

Twhirl is a desktop client that lets you update multiple social networks, including Facebook, Myspace and LinkedIn. It also adds a search feature and makes it easy to post photos.

The applications you listed are truly awesome. Great post!

I wanted to let you and your readers also know about a few Twitter applications I recently released that will help them build their Twitter network.

TwitterMass.com – A suite of Twitter tools that help you build, grow and nurture your Twitter following. Has been reviewed highly by blogs like ReadWriteWeb.com.

MillionDollarFollow.com – This is an advertising network I just released last week that enables people to advertise their Twitter profile for $1 and receive 150 chances to win up to 1 million Twitter followers. One winner will be chosen today (5/4/2009) to receive up to 400 new followers instantly. 10 cents from every advertisement goes directly to MalariaNoMore.org relief efforts.

Please email me directly or message me on Twitter if you have any questions, need any help or feedback on how I can improve these products.

    Thanks!

I want to put in a plug for Seesmic Desktop.

It is very similar to TweetDeck, but I have found it to be even more user friendly. Hovering over the avatar of any post reveals icons to immediately reply, direct message, retweet, or add to a user list (group).

You can view and manage multiple twitter accounts as well as Facebook in the familiar column format.

    Find it at desktop.seesmic.com.

Just another option to check out.

Another great twitter application powered by Adobe AI is Destroy Twitter and personally I think it has much better user experience than TweetDeck even with it still being in beta even though it does not have facebook support.

    destroytwitter.com

    Best!

Im a fan of tweeptracker.com I didn’t see any web apps in the list that really help you manage your contacts. While I don’t visit it daily, when I do want to clean up tweeps and see who’s following and who’s not, it saves a lot of time.
