Amazing Text Shine
Before this tutorial starts, I would like to point out that this tutorial can be used in almost all aspects of web design. From website banners, promotional banners and logos. The sky’s the limit with this tutorial.
Step 1
You will need to get your canvas, or work area and create the text that your going to be adding the effect to. I suggest using a standard text like ‘Verdana’. To see the full effects of 2 colours bouncing off each other, its best to have the first word 1 colour, and the 2nd word another. Ive chosen Blue and Orange.

Step 2
Now you have your text, lets start adding effects. To start your first effect you will need to copy and paste your text from Step 1 into a new text layer, Make this white and place it over your first text layer. Once you’ve done that you will need to make your text layer a normal layer, the easiest way of doing so is to click your text layer with the ‘Brush’ tool. Make the white layer an ‘Overlay’ and ‘Nudge’ your text down by 1 pixel, you can do this using your keyboard’s arrow keys.

Step 3
Now we need to make the shine have more curves. To do this we will need to use the ‘Marquee’ tool, you will need to set the feater at 10 (see picture for details). Once you’ve done this press ‘Delete’ on your keyboard and find the right looking curve for you.

Looking good ?
Step 4
Now we will repeat step 3 but nudge our text layer up rather then down. Keep not that when we are deleting using our feathered marquee tool that we will need to set the feather to 5. This allows much sharper gradients.
Step 5
Final details, to make our text stand out a little more you can either set a 3 pixel stroke of your background colour and add a slight drop shadow. Or you can do what I have chosen and added a indented stroke.
Please note: We are doing this on the original text layer.

Final Product
Well… There you have it

Thanks

I discovered this site through del.icio.us/popular and I have no idea what application these tutorials are for! I think it would help you and my fellow del.icio.us surfers if you included the name of the program (Paint or whatever it is) on each tutorial!
I agree with Fred.
These tutorials are for Photoshop, and Image Ready.. Both Adobe(R) programes which come in the Adobe(R) Photoshop package.. Hope I’ve helped
I recongnized the photoshop interface right, but I suppose it’s always good to put things in context.
Thanks for sharing, can’t wait to try it
I don’t thick ’script-fu’ will do in most cases. And by the way it doesn’t run on OSX.
I can’t believe the comments to this article.
First. If you get into a page you don’t understand… click away, it’s that easy. If you expect to click on del.icio.us links and be taken to websites with content that is familiar to you all the time… too bad, you’ll be frustrated most of the times.
Second. You know another OS, Program, Open Source Project (or so…) which makes this example way more easy and better… why are you looking for tutorials on the net then?? Go, start up your program and start delivering great designs with two clicks. And don’t go everywhere claiming that other (good, creative) people work is unnecesary.
Third. Peter… you have a very nice site, and those tutorials, coming from someone so “in trends” are a very valuable asset in anyone’s bookmarks. Keep them coming!!
Greetings!
Manolo
Well thanks alot Manoloweb

i couldnt really follow all of it >_
wow preety good tutorial. thanks for the tips.
No offense, but there are alot of easier ways to make a text effect other than this, ones that take less then 20 seconds to do.
Kids these days, seems like every damn kid on the internet just has to learn photoshop, they create one crappy signature or tutorial and they think they are a graphic artist..
is somebody who knows a web siter where i can find how to use photoshop?i’m learning now.
my email is: isabela_82@hotmail.com please, writte who knows where.
thanks:)
Subscribe to http://www.atomiclearning.com. They offer video tutorials on Photoshop and hundreds of other programs. It’s 80 bucks a year I think, but you get access to every tutorial they have. It’s a good resource for people just starting out.
I noticed your method is pretty definitive, and isn’t easy to change in the final design. In our studio, we use a lot of layer styles effects : ‘gradient overlay’ (with blue gradient on the first type, and orange gradient on the second type) and ‘outerglow’. Using layer styles gives you far more control/possibilities to easily change things if needed. I highly recommend that more flexible approach instead of this one. Good luck with the tutorial site!. Cheers, Tj.
nice! im needing lots of tutorials to use photoshop better cuz im a real newbie
