Great piece here - newsworthyness is the most important part of a press release - I agree with your thoughts on this - too many overlook the news point and concentrate on their products. I wrote an article on the same subject some years back for our customers - I notice you are planning more blogs on press release writing so thought I'd send you a link to it - feel free to incorporate any aspects of it you see fit, http://www.trainingpressreleases.com/5psarticle.asp

I also liked your piece on distribution services - my own is a specialist (paid for) service for the learning industry - the ones you mentioned are wider mass media services and indeed good at what they do - but I wanted to add that the specialist-industry distribution services often pick up on a growing level of trade media that the larger ones miss - events and conferences, research analysts, blogs, industry experts, commentators and VIPs, forums industry bodies, etc - all really important as many are prolific writers needing content and comments for their sites - and often these are a more realistic target for many B2B suppliers where the wider general media is not realistic for them to get into regularly.
