For purposes of this blog post I am going to be calling this style of site “Wide Web 2.0″, I know web 2.0 isn’t a design style nor should it be, but these style of sites starting appearing on web apps and web 2.0 sites. They basically consist of vertical areas which stretch 100% of the screen with a fixed width center that houses the content. Other characteristics are gradients, gloss effects and large footer areas containing more content. Lets take a look at some examples …

Hey! I like the look of the Studio 3K site, but it’s made with tables and doesn’t pass validation.

I like this style of websites.

  3. Ratan says:

The title made me think that there a Lot of good-looking fluid web 2.0 sites as well and web 2.0 shouldn’t be defined or restricted to fixed widths.
Nice list though, some good designs.

  4. Eli says:

Hmm… appears to be rather a common trend now.

  5. Ratan says:

too common if you ask me.
Every site i visit nowadays either looks like a blog or like one of the designs up there, so much for “creative web design”

  6. Imar says:

I enjoy the layout of these sites. They may not all be extremely creative, but i think they are very functional and pleasing to the eye. Some of them have great colour schemes too.

  7. Paolo says:

interesting article. I need ideas for my new layout. :)

  8. Histerius says:

This is the problem with trend – everybody want to follow them. So, even the interesting ideas very soon are too common.
